Lauren Davis, chair of the Virginia Cantaloupe Festival Committee, models this year’s T-shirt.

Halifax County’s 40th Annual Virginia Cantaloupe Festival will be celebrated a little differently this year.

However, in keeping a longstanding tradition alive, the county will still celebrate its farmers and local small businesses with the purchase of Party Packs. Cantaloupe Party Packs will include vouchers, discounts and coupons to local businesses, as well as a commemorative T-shirt.

This year’s Cantaloupe Celebration T-shirt encompasses festival traditions such as cantaloupe and barbecue, while also including new additions such as Springfield Distillery’s cantaloupe whiskey.

“This year’s shirt is one that will be memorable for years to come,” said Josie Turcotte of the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce. “The design has become a quick favorite, and a true representative of the Party Packs. Hallow Yellow took our exact idea and made it a reality.”

Christina Knapp, of Hellow Yellow, used inspiration from Spainhour’s pig, Springfield Distillery’s mason jar and Reese Farms’ cantaloupe. She has been working with the chamber on the past four Cantaloupe Festival T-shirts.

“I think they came out really great,” said Knapp. “I look forward to helping out with the T-shirt every year.”

Cantaloupe Party Packs are $35, or a T-shirt may be purchased separately for $25. The Party Packs are available online at www.valopefest.com.
