Houston Wallace, store manager of the Food Lion located at 1020 Bill Tuck Highway in South Boston has been chosen among more than 1,000 other Food Lion store managers to be named one of five Food Lion Divisional Store Managers of the Year.

The overall Food Lion brand winner will be chosen among the five divisional winners during a virtual recognition event on Feb. 11.

Wallace was chosen for his work to enrich the lives of Food Lion’s customers, associates and the South Boston community and his successful leadership of his store’s business and how he supports and inspires others.

“Houston is a tremendous leader who takes is committed to serving his South Boston neighbors,” said John Garlick, vice president of Food Lion’s Northern division. “His neighbors know they can count on him and his team of associates to help nourish their families. We’re very proud to have him be a member of the Food Lion team.”

Wallace was selected from a group of nearly 200 store managers across the division.

To support his community during last year’s unprecedented time, Wallace partnered with nursing homes to deliver food baskets to the elderly and with local police to adopt a family during the holidays.

He takes pride in his store’s appearance and can be found most frequently walking the departments to ensure a consistent shopping experience for his neighbors. He motivates associates in his South Boston store to do their best, and they love his drive and willingness to jump in when needed.

A press release will be distributed on Feb. 12 naming the overall Food Lion brand winner, named in honor of one of Food Lion’s founders, Ralph W. Ketner.
