It was famed English writer Virginia Woolf who said it best, “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well if one has not dined well.”

If looking to dine well, make a reservation during Halifax County Restaurant Week beginning Sunday and continuing through Saturday.

In its fourth year, Halifax County Restaurant Week is hallmarked by local eateries putting together delightful, delicious and easy-on-the-purse menus.

This year it features 10 restaurants, including four newcomers.

Badeaux’s Seafood & Grill, The Busy Bean, Four Oaks and Spainhour Diner are all first-time participants.

The week of dining also will feature restaurants that have been on board since inception.

Returning for 2019 are Bistro 1888, Darby’s Tavern at Berry Hill Resort, Molasses Grill, The Packhouse and Southern Plenty Café.

“We are thrilled to celebrate our local restaurants with this festive week of dining out,” said Linda Shepperd, director of tourism.

“For the participating restaurants, this week is a great opportunity for them to showcase their restaurants to people who may otherwise not dine with them and to attract diners from across the region. We love that several of the restaurants have been on board since we started this event in 2016 and excited to have four new establishments join us this year.”

Each restaurant will prepare a tantalizing menu for breakfast, lunch or dinner. There will be $10 breakfast and lunch options and $25 dinner options.

Tax and gratuity are never included in the special Restaurant Week prices.

Restaurant dining options and hours will vary by location. Visit for all participating restaurants, hours, contact information, menus and complete details about the event.

“I will make two recommendations,” said Shepperd. “One, do your research, and see what is on each menu, and two, make reservations if offered by the establishment.”

In addition to the 10 participating restaurants, four local businesses have joined the celebration and will offer specials and discounts during Restaurant Week.

Springfield Distillery will host a mixology event with heavy hors d’oeuvres starting at 6 p.m. on Monday, and the cost is $25 including food and four cocktails. Space is limited.

To reserve a space, call the distillery at 434-575-9317.

Springfield Distillery also will offer cocktail specials during the week.

Bright Meadows Farm Vineyard and Winery and Hunting Creek Vineyards also are participating.

Persons may visit Bright Meadows on Sept. 13 or 14 and Hunting Creek on Sept. 14 and mention Restaurant Week for a discount in the tasting room.

Looking for a sweet treat? KJ’s Cake Creations in Downtown South Boston also will offer a delicious deal during Restaurant Week.
