A week after Mike’s Pizza & Restaurant opened its doors for the first time, owner Mikail Kallfani joined town officials, his employees, individuals with J.E. Burton Construction and others for a ribbon cutting on Tuesday.
Mike’s Pizza, located at 1211 Wilborn Ave., opened its doors Tuesday, Nov. 16, and Kallfani was overwhelmed with the response they received from the community.
The decision to open Mike’s Pizza came after the former Dinis Brothers Pizza & Restaurant caught fire on Nov. 15, 2020. Kallfani owned the business side of it, and decided that it was more feasible to start over in a fresh, new location.
It was South Boston Town Manager Tom Raab who helped him find this new location.
“We started looking one day, and I told him I’d take him to every place I know,” said Raab.
They visited close to 14 locations, according to Raab.
Then as they were coming down Wilborn Avenue, they stopped at the light at Edmunds Street, and looked out the window.
“I said, ‘what do you think about that lot?’ He said, ‘beside Hardee’s, I think that’d be good,’” the town manager relayed.
Raab said he thought he knew who the owners were so he contacted Mike Harris, Betty and James Sadler and another individual.
“Those three got together and worked out a deal to buy the property and that’s how he’s here today,” he added.
Crutchfield & Associates, Inc. and J.E. Burton Construction Company, Inc. broke ground on the new location in May.
The new space is more open with an open ceiling and no walls in the dining area, and includes fixtures such as LED lighting and appropriate HVAC, according to project manger Jay Jennings with J.E. Burton Construction.
The menu features their famous house special pizza, other pizzas, salads, strombolis, Gyros, subs, pastas, burgers and more.
They’re still currently working on obtaining their ABC license.
Hours are Tuesday – Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday – Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. They will be closed Thursday of this week for Thanksgiving.
Also this week, 10% of all proceeds will to police and fire department, Kallfani announced Tuesday.
“Thank you all very much,” Kallfani said of the support he’s received.
