Learn how to weld with a new workshop from the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center.
The SVHEC will offer an explore welding workshop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 1 for individuals interested in a hands-on introduction to welding. During the one-day workshop, attendees will receive a hands-on introduction to welding processes (stick, MIG, and TIG) and cutting with plasma and oxy-fuel.
Explore welding attendees will receive instruction from a certified welding instructor and will participate in hands-on practice.
The registration fee is $50 per person.
Individuals looking for a more in-depth welding experience are encouraged to register for the at home welding class.
At home welding will meet for six weeks on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 5 to 9 p.m. and will cover stick, MIG and TIG welding and cutting with plasma and oxy-fuel. The class provides ample time for hands-on practice and the opportunity to work on a personal or class project.
“This is a great adult learning program that has provided me with a working foundation on how to safely and productively weld. I loved the hands-on instruction which was perfect for adult learners like me,” said Denise Hudson who completed the at home welding class in 2017.
At home welding begins on April 2, and it costs $500 per person. Individuals who first complete the explore welding workshop will receive a 10 percent discount.
Space in the explore welding workshop and the at home welding class is limited.
