Surrounding localities have added to the COVID-19 death toll in recent days.

Danville recorded two additional deaths linked with the illness caused by the coronavirus in the past two days, according to data from the Virginia Department of health. Mecklenburg County added another death for a total of 31.

It’s not clear when the deaths occurred, and health officials for months have noted a lag in reporting the data.

Online data does show an additional death at Chase City Health and Rehab Center, a long-term care facility.

Halifax County added four new cases of COVID-19 since Tuesday and had a cumulative total of 130 cases as of Thursday morning’s update from the state health department. The health department updates an online database at about 9 a.m. each day with figures entered by 5 p.m. the previous day.

In the past two weeks, 33 new cases of the virus have been reported in Halifax County. That’s the general time frame health officials use to note active cases.

The Pittsyvlania-Danville Health District reached 600 cases on Thursday morning. In that area, 246 cases are considered active.

Statewide there were 88,904 cases of COVID-19 listed in Thursday’s data report, an increase of 911 from the previous day.
