Following Gov. Ralph Northam’s Monday announcement of Executive Order 53, South Boston town manager Tom Raab announced new operational procedures Tuesday afternoon.
Effective immediately, all events held at any South Boston facility are postponed or canceled, including public meetings, Raab announced.
All essential services such as fire, EMS, police and refuse collection will operate as normal, said Raab.
He added that public works will operate as normal using all safety protocols.
All parks and recreation activities are canceled, and parks are closed to the public.
South Boston Town Hall also is closed to the public.
“We are utilizing teleworking as much as possible. We are enhancing sanitizing practices on common surfaces. We are available by email or telephone,” said Raab.
The town manager also wanted to remind businesses and citizens that the governor’s order is in effect until April 24 and places restrictions on businesses that serve the public in addition to limiting public gatherings to less than 10 and social distancing of 6 feet between people.
He also reminded the public that the governor can change or issue new orders at any time.
