One death in Halifax County is linked to COVID-19, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
The fatality was included in Wednesday’s data update on the health department’s website, although it’s not clear when the death occurred. Health officials have noted a lag in online reporting, especially deaths.
The online data is refreshed daily at 9 a.m. and reflects the latest information received by 6 p.m. the previous day.
Across the Southside Health District that encompasses Halifax, Mecklenburg and Brunswick counties, there are 25 deaths reported. Mecklenburg has recorded 23 of those with the latest reported in Wednesday’s data update.
The local department also has previously noted it does not provide details on specific cases, however online data shows of the 25 deaths in the district, 11 were in individuals 80 and above; 11 in the 70-79 age group; and three were people ages 60-69.
For the first time in more than a week, Halifax County added another case of COVID-19, the severe respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus, for a total of 31 in Thursday’s data report. Mecklenburg County — still leading Southside in numbers — remained steady at 219 cases. Henry County’s numbers have steadily increased this week. That locality added seven new cases on Thursday for a total of 152.
