Ohm Yoga Center held its grand opening Saturday at its location in downtown Halifax.
“Yoga increases flexibility, mental focus and strength. It is a great tool for reducing stress and anxiety. Yoga allows you to calm the busy mind and get in touch with your true inner self,” according to owner/instructor Rebecca Ramey.
Ohm Yoga offers vinyasa style yoga classes to all levels of students. In this style of yoga, movements are linked closely with the inhalation and exhalation of the breath. The transitions between postures are given as much focus as the poses themselves, she said.
Ohm Yoga Center’s goal is to offer a welcoming environment, where each student is given individualized attention. Students receive gentle physical adjustments while in poses to ensure proper alignment of the body.
Ramey received her 230 hour certification through Asheville Yoga. She began offering classes to the public at St. John’s Episcopal Church under the name Halifax Yoga.
The need to offer her students more flexibility in class offerings, and the desire to offer a space dedicated entirely to yoga, resulted in the opening of Ohm Yoga Center in the heart of downtown Halifax, she said.
By opening a studio in town, Ohm Yoga can offer a wide variety of class times for all levels of students.
Chair yoga offers a gentle class providing stability and support no matter what your age or ability. Gentle Flow is designed to get the body moving in a fluid and relaxing manner. Mindful Flow focuses more on alignment of the body and incorporates more difficult postures, she explained.
