Huber Engineered Woods of Crystal Hill was honored Tuesday as Business of the Year at the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce annual meeting and awards banquet.
Approximately 500 people attended the banquet, which also featured a special recognition of Outgoing Chairman Stanley Jeffress, Incoming Chairman Jack Caldwell and recognitions of committee chairpersons.
J. M. Huber LLC was recognized, in the words of Caldwell, “for being a good corporate citizen and for being a good steward of our environment.”
A family-owned company founded in 1883 by Joseph Maria Huber, the J.M. Huber Corporation spans six generations and is one of the most successful privately held corporations in the United States, Caldwell noted.
The Crystal Hill mill opened in 1995 and manufactures products including a variety of engineered wood products such as AdvanTech flooring, sheathing and rim board and structural insulated panels.
Jeremy Catron of Huber Engineered Woods serves on the Halifax County Chamber Senior Executive Roundtable.
Huber participates in several chamber events, including the Business Expo, Cantaloupe Festival and Women in Business Luncheon.
Several winners for a number of raffle drawings also were announced at Tuesday’s chamber banquet.
Davis Company Realtors won an overnight stay at Berry Hill Resort & Conference Center the day of the annual Virginia Cantaloupe Festival.
Roy and Sheila Bradley won a meal ($125 value) at Oak Tree Tavern at Virginia International Raceway, Joe and Frances Satterfield won a meal ($125 value) at Molasses Grill, Earl McDaniel won a meal at Bistro 1888 ($125 value), and Cheryl Terry won a Halifax County wine country tour for eight guests ($300 value) courtesy of All Occasion Limousine Service.
