Make this the summer Saturday event for your family, Saturday, Aug. 4.
Enjoy a nature narrated canoe float trip with Park Rangers on the Staunton River from Virginia’s Staunton River Battlefield State Park to the Highway 360 boat ramp and return to the park for an afternoon grill out.
“Heard of a walk-a-thon fundraiser? Well, this is a “Canoe-a-Kid-a-Thon” fundraiser,” said Community Development Officer Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Homes George Lansing.
“Bring your family and kids out to have fun and support the families and kids of Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Homes,” Lansing said.
Canoes, life jackets and food afterward will be provided.
“You bring your family and as much sponsored donations as you can raise and be prepared to have a grand time,” he added.
The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with orientation. The float, beginning at 9 a.m., lasts for about four hours with plenty of nature education, swimming and fun along the way.
Lansing said this event will be an ongoing annual fundraiser, the first Saturday of every August.
