The Alton community will be full of the holiday spirit tomorrow (Saturday) when the annual Alton Christmas Parade steps off at 11 a.m., rain or shine.
The Boy Scouts of America will have Brunswick stew for sale, hot dogs will be available at the Alton Post Office, and there will be a bake sale across the road. Vendors will have crafts for sale, including mothers’ and grandmothers’ necklaces.
The theme of this year’s parade is “Salute to the Military,” according to Parade Chairman Stacey Hughes. All members of the military are invited to participate in the parade, Hughes said.
“We’ve got a lot of entries for the parade,” Hughes said. “About 75, but anyone who wants to be in the parade can just show up that morning.”
The Cedar Grove Methodist Church youth group will pick up canned goods for the Good Samaritan food closet on their float along the parade route. Those attending the parade are asked to bring a non-perishable food item and give it to any youth group member on the float.
Youngsters can drop off their letters to Santa Claus, and for $5 they will get a response from Santa himself. Following the parade, children can visit with Santa and have their picture taken with him in the Alton Baptist Church parking lot prayer garden.
All are welcome to participate in the annual Alton Christmas Parade, and there’s no entry fee.
