A total of 557 South Boston residences and businesses were without power Christmas Eve morning as a result of a line coming down off a pole in Riverdale. According to Dominion Virginia Power spokesman Dan Genest, the initial power outage occurred around 6:30 a.m. affecting 185 customers.
However, in order to repair the downed line, Genest said another circuit had to be closed causing power outages to a total of 557 Dominion Virginia Power customers.
Crews worked throughout the morning and into the afternoon Christmas Eve repairing the electric line located on Hwy. 501 South in Riverdale.
“When it is cold, and everyone is off work and at home with their heat on, you can’t just flip a switch and restore power to everyone at the same time because it will just cause more problems,” Genest explained.
He said around 1 p.m. crews began bringing customers back on line, and by 2:30 p.m. power had been restored to all 557 customers.
