Halifax County Treasurer Linda S. Foster reminds dog owners that 2010 dog tags need to be on dogs by Feb. 1.
In order to purchase tags, owners need to bring valid dog rabies vaccination certificates that are issued by a licensed veterinarian. Dogs that are 4 months of age need to be vaccinated and tagged. Tags must be purchased each year. State law pertaining to any violations are handled though the Animal Control Officer.
Owners can purchase regular tags for $5 at the County Treasurer’s Office in the Mary Bethune Office Complex in Halifax. Owners also may mail in vaccination certificates with fee to the Halifax County Treasurer’s Office, P. 0. Box 825, Halifax, Va. 24558. Dog tags and vaccination papers will be mailed back to the owners. Kennel tags also are sold in Halifax. A 20-dog kennel is $40 and 20 plus kennel is $50.
Any question concerning dates on vaccination certificates, call the County Treasurer’s Office at 476-3318.
