More than 2,000 Halifax County residents with phone number prefixes of 454 could not use their landline telephones Thursday afternoon, according to Halifax County Emergency Services Coordinator Kirby Saunders.
Saunders said a total of 2,060 Halifax County customers with the 454 prefix were affected as of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, and suggested customers who could not use their land lines use their cell phones instead until the issue could be resolved.
Verizon has been made aware of the problem and is currently working to correct the issue.
Although no restoration time has been given, Saunders said at press time it could take up to 24 hours to repair.
“We are urging citizens to utilize cell phones in the affected area to contact 911,” he added.
Notification will be sent when services are restored, the emergency services coordinator said.
A majority of Halifax County residents using the 454 prefix include those customers in the Clover and Scottsburg areas.
