ORIGINAL STORY:
The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Aug. 1 armed robbery at the Valero convenience store on U.S. 58 (Philpott Highway) in South Boston.
According to Sheriff Fred Clark, around 2:45 a.m. a man wearing a ski mask entered Valero and brandished a chrome handgun demanding money.
The clerk gave the suspect $20 to $35, all the money that was in the cash register at the time, Clark said.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s. He is 5 foot, 6 inches tall and small-built, Clark said.
The suspect was wearing blue jeans, a brown Carhartt-style zip-up jacket with a hood and a black ski mask.
Clark said the suspect fled west on U.S. 58 toward All Star Tire Lube.
Authorities used tracking dogs and were able to track the suspect to a private driveway where the suspect is believed to have gotten into a vehicle and fled the scene.
Investigator T. R. Spencer is continuing the investigation.
Clark asked anyone with information on this crime to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 476-3334.
He also expressed appreciation to the South Boston Police Department who responded to the Valero Store early Wednesday morning.
