The Halifax County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a new telephone scam surfacing in the area.
According to Sheriff Fred Clark, a telephone caller is telling people that they are with Publisher’s Clearinghouse, and that they’ve won $1.5 million dollars (or sometimes $2.5 million dollars), and a new car (or boat or even an airplane). The caller will say that all you need to do is send them $688 for shipping, and you will receive your prize.
Clark would like to remind citizens that these types of calls are indeed scams.
