A 49-year-old Semora, N.C. woman has been charged with failure to yield the right of way following a two-vehicle wreck that occurred Sunday at 4:15 p.m. on Highway 58, two-tenths of a mile west of State Route 836.
According to an accident report filed by State Trooper R. T. Ridgeway, Gloria M. Woods was driving a 1993 Honda Accord when she turned left into a driveway crossing into the path of a 1999 Volkswagen Passat driven by 44-year-old Tonya S. Astin of Java and was struck.
Both vehicles veered off the right side of the road, and Astin’s Volkswagen struck a mailbox owned by Earl T. Walton, the report stated.
Both drivers were transported by EMS to Halifax Regional Hospital along with two passengers in the Astin vehicle, 47-year-old Thomas B. Gregory and an 11-year-old male juvenile.
Ridgeway estimated damage to Astin’s Volkswagen at $7,000 and damage to Woods’ Honda at $5,500.
The mailbox sustained an estimated $100 in damage.
