The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center and Halifax Educational Foundation will host the Innovation Center Open House on Sunday, April 22, from 2-5 p.m., and the community is invited to attend.
The Innovation Center is the SVHEC’s home for Workforce Services, Business of Art & Design programs (Digital Art & Design and Product Design & Development) and the R&D Center for Advanced Manufacturing & Energy Efficiency.
The Innovation Center, located at 820 Bruce Street in South Boston, opened last spring in the renovated former American Tobacco Warehouse.
The open house will give a first look at this state-of-the-art facility and its unique programs and services.
The Innovation Center Open House will feature an interactive tour, live demonstrations, light refreshments and door prizes. Visitors will have an opportunity to experience technology for themselves as they record a song in the audio bay, to have their photo taken in the photography studio and to see today’s advanced manufacturing in action during the R&D Center demonstration.
Guests also will see Business of Art & Design students in action as they compete in a three-hour comic strip challenge in the building’s large studio space.
Several tour stations will feature giveaways for attendees. As an added attraction, open house visitors who complete the tour will be placed in a drawing for an Apple iPad 3, a Kindle Touch, gas cards and gift cards to local restaurants and businesses.
The SVHEC Innovation Center Open House promises to be a fun-filled afternoon for the whole family, said Hope Harris Gayles, communications manager for the center.
“Come tour the new facility and explore the opportunities available in southern Virginia,” she added.
The mission of the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center is to advance Southern Virginia’s economic potential through education, innovation, and collaboration.
