The American Red Cross is assisting a Scottsburg family who lost its home to a tragic house fire just five days before Christmas.
According to Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jay Reese, fire consumed the single story home of Rex Noblin and family Thursday morning.
Located on Woods Creek Lane, just off Bethel Road, the doublewide house was valued at over $100,000 and declared a total loss, Reese said.
The origin of the fire that started in the center of the house remains undetermined, the fire chief said Thursday afternoon. Halifax County Emergency Services Coordinator Kirby Saunders is continuing to investigate the cause of the blaze.
When firefighters arrived on the scene shortly before 9:30 a.m., Reese said the house was fully involved with flames showing.
No one was in the house at the time of the fire, and no one was hurt as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.
Seven Scottsburg volunteer firefighters responded to the house fire on two trucks and were assisted by Halifax Volunteer Fire Department with two trucks and four firefighters, Clover Volunteer Fire Department with two firefighters, Triangle Volunteer Fire Department with one truck and one firefighter and South Boston Fire Department with one truck and five firefighters.
Firefighters remained on the scene four and a half hours working to bring the fire under control.
