A late night fire destroyed a wood-frame single story house on River Road Friday evening.
According to a Halifax Volunteer Fire Department spokesperson, firefighters from Halifax, South Boston and Oak Level Fire Departments responded around 11:30 p.m. to a report of a house fire at Elgie Crews’ residence located at 4224 River Road in South Boston.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, the house was fully involved, the spokesperson said.
Halifax responded with three trucks and nine firefighters, and South Boston assisted with one truck and six firefighters, and Oak Level assisted with two trucks and six firefighters. Firefighters used over 15,000 gallons of water before bringing the fire under control four hours later.
The fire is believed to have started in the rear of the house, the spokesperson said, adding the cause still remains undetermined.
Damage to the house was estimated at $145,000.
Early Saturday morning, firefighters were called back to the scene after the fire rekindled.
Halifax Volunteer Fire Department and South Boston Fire Department responded at 8:40 a.m. Saturday.
No one was hurt while battling the blaze.
