Robert Andrew “Rob” Guthrie Sr., 90, of Nathalie passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was happily married to Geraldine Stevens Guthrie for 67 years.
Mr. Guthrie was born in Halifax County, August 20, 1919, a son of the late Flournoy C. Guthrie and Virginia Turner Guthrie. He was a faithful member of Childrey Baptist Church where he served as deacon and head usher for 20 years, a U. S. Army veteran and owner of R. A. Guthrie General Store and Scrap Metal.
He was a dedicated dad to his two sons, Bobby Guthrie and wife Gayle, Phillip Guthrie and wife Lynne, all of Nathalie; and to his daughter Pam Anouilh and husband Rod of Durham, NC; he was a doting papa to his three grandchildren, Robbie, Sherrie and husband Danny and Katelyn; he was “walk with me grandpa” to Maelyn Nicole; he was a big brother to Jim, Ran and Max Guthrie and to Anne Jennings and Pattie Yates; he leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Sam Guthrie, and a sister, Mavin Adams.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Childrey Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry Stanfield with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal and will be at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law Bobby and Gayle Guthrie other times.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of our family and friends and also to the staff and doctors at Lynchburg General Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, persons are asked to consider their local fire departments and rescue squads, the Hospice of the Hills or the Pallitive Group at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
