Mrs. Sudie McDowell Roark of 17081 Old Richmond Road, Keeling died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Pittsylvania County on Dec. 14, 1923 and was 85 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Henry W. McDowell and Stella Hart Woodson McDowell and was married to the late Wilmer Ryland Roark Sr.
Mrs. Roark was a member of County Line Baptist Church
Survivors include one son, Wilmer Ryland Roark Jr. and wife, Florine, of Halifax; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mabel Perry of Sandston, Kathryn Moss of Danville and Patsy Gray of Knoxville, TN; two brothers, Garland McDowell of Danville and Delbert McDowell of Keeling; special family members, Mary McDowell of Java, Mary Lynn Griffin and family of Roxboro, NC, Rebekah Nichols of Greensboro, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews. One brother, Robert McDowell, and two sisters, Edith McDowell Sparrow and Janie Sterling, also preceded Mrs. Roark in death.
Funeral services for Mrs. Roark will be held Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at 2 p.m. at County Line Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
