Mr. Charles Bernard Edmonds Sr. of Astoria, N.Y., formerly of Halifax, died Monday, Feb. 27, at the age of 94. Mr. Edmonds was born in Halifax County on Oct. 8, 1917 to the late Rev. Frank Earl Edmonds and Mrs. Manilla Majors Edmonds. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Jane Sanders and husband Robbie of Matawon, N.J.; two sons, Mr. Charles Bernard Edmonds Jr. of Atlanta, Ga. and Mr. David Edmonds of Astoria; two stepdaughters, Ms. Lilla Meah of Atlanta and Mrs. Altamese Bristow of Astoria; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Mr. Benjamin Farmer Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, both wives, Mrs. Georgia Edmonds and Mrs. Leola Edmonds; one son, Mr. Kenneth Edmonds; his stepmothers, Carrie Edmonds and Annie Powell Edmonds; his brothers, Frank “Dick” Edmonds, Otis E. Edmonds and Willie Carson; his sisters, Gladys Barksdale, Fannie M. Edmonds, Mamie Talley, Sue E. Farmer and Lucille Haskins, also preceded Mr. Edmonds in death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 6, 2012, in Astoria with military rites. Burial followed in Calverton National Cemetery.
