Dennis Lee Rogers, 82, of Boydton, husband of Frances Dempsey Rogers, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Duke University Medical Center. Mr. Rogers was born Nov. 25, 1929 to the late Walter Lee and Jesse Thompson Rogers in Finchley. A graduate of Boydton High School with the class of 1947, he also graduated from Smithdeal-Massey Business College. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Rogers was Master of the Twin Rivers Lodge # 338 and also District Deputy Grand Master for the 28th Masonic District. A member of Liberty Baptist Church, he taught Sunday school there for 40 plus years and was an ordained deacon and trustee. He was general manager for Tucker Bevell Motors Company, and then an independent insurance representative for AFLAC Insurance Company for 30 years. Mr. Rogers enjoyed farming and lived on a farm all of his life.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Burris officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, Mr. Rogers is survived by his daughter, Sharon Day, of Oxford, N.C.; sons and daughter-in-law, Thomas L. “Tommy” Rogers of Boydton, and Gary and Cherry Rogers of South Boston; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Ethel Faison of Emporia, Doris Gregory of Chase City, Geneva Collins of Oak Island, N.C, and Rachel Thompson of Kyle, Texas. He was preceded in death by his brother, George Rogers; and sisters, Edith Cannon, Irene Ford and Isla Boyd.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.
