Mr. James William ‘Willie’ Yates of Clover died Oct. 7, 2012, at Duke University Medical Center.
Mr. Yates was born in Halifax County on Oct. 18, 1922 and was 89 years old. He was the son of the late James Hartford Yates and Blanche Chaffin Yates and was married to the late Mary ‘Bobbie’ Terry Yates.
He was a member of Rodgers Chapel Baptist Church, was a World War II Army veteran and a retired tobacco farmer.
Mr. Yates is survived by a number of nieces and nephews; and his Rodgers Chapel Church family.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lois Yates Noblin, Norma Yates Snead and Alice Ann Yates; and five brothers, Otis Rose Sr., Charlie Yates, Rodger Yates, Elmer Yates and Mickey Yates.
A graveside service for Mr. Yates will be held at Rodgers Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Aubrey Heath officiating.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
