John Menelaos Morris, 88, lifetime Richmond resident, passed away peacefully Oct. 7, 2012.
Mr. Morris is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Stella Calos Morris; his children, Mark (Deborah), Anna Sempeles (John), and Angela Panos (Emanuel); grandchildren, Matthew Morris, Chrysann Panos, Sophia Sempeles and John Panos; cousin, Pauline Simopoulos; 12 nieces and nephews; and 20 great-nieces and nephews.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in WWII and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a very active member of his church, Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, serving as president and treasurer of the Parish Council. He was a member of AHEPA, Masonic Metropolitan Lodge No. 11 and American Legion Post 84. After he retired as a restaurateur, he spent the next 15 years serving many customers at the Gayton Crossing Ukrop’s Deli with a smile. His quiet dignity will be greatly missed.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, with a 7 p.m. Trisagion service at Bliley’s - Central, 3801 Augusta Avenue.
A funeral service was held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Malvern Avenue, Richmond. Interment was in Westhampton Memorial Park.
