Mrs. Ella Alma Link Smith went to be with her Lord on April 19, 2012. She was born in Pearson County, N.C. on Sept. 11, 1918 and was 93 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Edmond Jones Link and Ella Alma Blalock Link and was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Sidney Smith.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Mrs. Smith is survived by three children, one daughter, Jean Smith Poole of South Boston; two sons, Wayne Edmond Smith and wife Elizabeth Forlines Smith of Virgilina and Edgar Lloyd Smith Sr. of South Boston; 10 grandchildren, Bernard Lee and Brenda Poole of Halifax, Larry Dean and Esther Poole of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Donna Poole Crowder and Jason of South Boston, Carl Wayne and Carol Smith of Virgilina, Randy Calvin Smith of Virgilina, Tammy Smith Poole and Tommy of South Boston, Debra Smith Thomas of Alton and Edgar Lloyd Smith Jr. of Scottsburg; 12 great-grandchildren, Bradford Lee Poole, Justin Adam Poole, Joshua Larry Poole, Joey Dean Poole, Johanna Lynn Poole, Dylan Chase Crowder, Michael Lee Smith, William Thomas Poole, Gabrel Evans Poole, Christie Lee, Ashlynn Wheeler and Landon Brock Thomas; six great-great-grandchildren, Alexandrea Anderson, Jessie Poole, Rachel Poole, Alan Lee, Hailey Lee and Taylor Wheeler; three sisters, Lois Glasscock and Louise and Lewis Howerton, all of Buffalo Junction, and Ruby Parris of Rougemont, N.C.; two special friends, Annie Welcher and Lottie Boyd, both of Virgilina.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held Saturday, April 21, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Mike Riley officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home, 3114 Buckshoal Road, Virgilina.
