Mrs. Ruth Virginia Williams Jordan of Riverdale Drive, South Boston, died Tuesday, April 25, at The Woodview Nursing Home at the age of 95.
Mrs. Jordan was born in Halifax County on July 8, 1916 to the late Thomas Williams and Mrs. Mattie Owens Williams. She was married to the late Mr. Edward Jordan and was a member of St. Michael’s A.M.E. Church.
Mrs. Jordan is survived by one daughter, Ms. Shernita Jordan of South Boston; two sons, Mr. Stephen Jordan and wife Glenda of Roanoke, and Mr. Leon Jordan and wife Charmaine of Petersburg; 14 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mattie Scott of Richmond; one brother, Mr. Harvey Maynard Williams of Richmond; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Queen Jordan of Oxon Hill, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including the devoted, Mrs. Ella Carrington.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Jordan was preceded in death by two sons, Mr. Donald Jordan and Mr. William Jordan Sr.; six sisters, Mrs. Janie Richardson, Ms. Anna Owens, Mrs. Laura Ragsdale, Mrs. Thelma Anderson, Mrs. Helen Matthews and Mrs. Ada Logan.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jordan will be held Saturday, April 28, at 11 a.m. at The Crawford House chapel in Halifax with the Rev. Gloria Skinner Pettiford officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends Friday beginning at 6 p.m. at Jeffless Funeral Home and all other times at the residence, 1077 Riverdale Drive, South Boston.
