Melvin Ruffin Long, age 69, of 3993 Bowmantown Road, Roxboro, N.C. died Monday morning, April 30, 2012, at his home.
Mr. Long was a native of Person County, N.C., husband of 39 years to the late Annie Wilmoth Long, and son of the late David Joseph Long and Christine Long, who survives. He was retired from Piedmont Maintenance and Services and was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Joseph Long and wife Marla of Roxboro; three daughters, Deborah Ann Whitfield and husband Barry of Hurdle Mills, N.C., Amy Long Byrd and husband Lee, and Rhonda Jean Tuck, all of Roxboro; one sister, Lois L. Dunkley; a step-son, Danny Ray Tuck; 12 grandchildren, Trinity and T.C. Whitfield, Anthony, Derek and Heath Tuck, Reva and Chris Tuck, Falon, Jenna and Grant Long, Seth Byrd and James Duke; three step-grandchildren, Jeremy, Christopher and Suzanne Whitfield; five great-grandchildren, Dillon Tuck, Aydon Worell, Julianne Whitfield, Mason Whitfield and Preston Moore.
In addition to his wife and father, one brother, Tad Long, also preceded Mr. Long in death.
The Rev. Carl Hudson will conduct the funeral service Wednesday, May 2, 2012, in the Strickland Funeral Home chapel at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home, and other times at the home.
