Joshua Allan “Poke” Williams of 1035 Comer Lane, South Boston died Saturday, May 26, 2012. He was born in Halifax County on April 2, 1990 to Randy Williams and Cindy Williams and was 22 years of age.
In addition to working at Louisiana Pacific, Josh was a student at James Madison University where he was pursuing a degree in geology and was a member of the JMU Geology Club. He also was a member of the Hyco Road Hunting Club, a former Halifax County High School varsity baseball player, a former player and long-time supporter of Halifax County South Baseball and was the recipient of the 2008 Virginia Dixie Boys Baseball Scholarship.
In addition to his parents of the home, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Don and Liz Williams, of South Boston; maternal grandmother Becky Wilson of Alton; paternal great-grandmother Sue Thompson of Rustburg; maternal great-grandmother Allena Elliott of Virgilina; sister Kelsy Williams of the home; aunt and uncle Vicky and Dan Irby of South Boston; uncle and aunt Curt and Kim Wilson of Richmond; girlfriend Jaynee Campbell of Vernon Hill and best friend Travis Snead of Virgilina.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Curtis Wilson; uncle, Mike Flynn; maternal great-grandparents, K. H. and Gladys King and paternal great-grandmother Josephine Sadler.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Jack Stewart. The family will receive friends at Grace Baptist Church Monday from 6:30 until 9 p.m. and other times at the home.
