Mr. George Douglas Young, age 65, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, in Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Virgilina.
Survivors of Mr. Young include seven children, Schwanda Stewart (Rodney), Keith Wade, Jennifer Jones (Kenneth), Christopher Ellis, Charles Ellis, Veronica Young and George Young Jr., all of Roxboro, N.C.; his mother, Ida Christine Young; six sisters, Lottie Mae Smith of Virgilina, Ida Frances Crowder of N.J., Alice Ingram of Durham, N.C., Evelyn Young, Rosa Young and Margaret Miles, all of Roxboro; four brothers, Garland Crowder and James Young, both of Virgilina, Donald Stanley (Virnae) of South Boston and John F. Young of Roxboro; 24 grandchildren; a god-daughter, Brandy Richardson; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Virgilina with the Rev. Lorenzo Love officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be at Cunningham and Nelson Funeral Home, Roxboro on Friday from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. At other times, the family will receive friends at 1421 Elm Street, Roxboro, NC.
The body will lie in state in the church one hour prior to the service.
Cunningham and Nelson Funeral Directors are in charge of the service for Mr. Young.
