Mr. Ernest Lawson Solomon, 94, of 12107 Philpott Road, Alton died Sept. 2, 2012 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on Oct. 11, 1917 the son of the late Ollie Lawson Solomon and Connie Murray Solomon. He was married to Mildred Henderson Solomon, who survives.
Mr. Solomon was a member of Live Branch United Methodist Church, a past trustee of the church, a past treasurer of the church and cemetery, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 8 for over 60 years, and a charter member of Turbeville Ruritan Club. He was a World War II Army veteran and was a former employee in the shipping department at Westinghouse (ABB).
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Carolyn S. Murray and husband John of Charlotte, N.C., Sandra S. Loftis and husband Donald of Kernersville, N.C. and Susan S. Brown of Lewisburg W.Va.; one sister, Cornelia S. Moore of Alton; one sister-in-law, Thelma Henderson of Alton; two grandsons, Derek Lawson Murray and Justin Tyson Brown; one great-granddaughter, Lawson Diane Murray; and special family friends, the Aherron family.
In addition to his parents, one brother, Lonnie Solomon; and one brother-in-law, Charlie Moore, also preceded Mr. Solomon in death.
The family received friends at Brooks Funeral Home chapel Sept. 4, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and other times at the home.
Funeral services were held at Olive Branch United Methodist Church Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bob Woodfin officiating. Bur4ial followed in the church cemetery.
