Mrs. Rebecca Bowen Russell of South Boston died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at The Woodview Nursing Home. She was born in Halifax County on April 25, 1916 and was 96 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Garnie Stuart Bowen and Blanche Maddox Bowen.
Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Otto ‘Red’ Russell. She was a member of McCanless United Methodist Church.
Survivors of Mrs. Russell include a grandson, Ralph Morgan and wife Raquel of South Boston; one brother, Stuart Bowen of Richmond; two great-grandchildren, Justin Morgan and wife Molly of Durham, N.C. and Jamie Morgan of South Boston; four nieces, Blanche Brittain, Myrtle Fayard, Janet Clark and Kathy deKrafft; and one nephew, Billy Bowen.
Two brothers, Clarence Wayburn Bowen and James W. Bowen; and one daughter, Nancy Russell Morgan, also preceded Mrs. Russell in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at McCanless United Methodist Church with the Revs. Joe Trickey and Elsie Mae Gladding officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service and other times at the home of Ralph and Raquel Morgan, 107 Ratliff Drive, South Boston.
