Mrs. Pocahontas Hines Long of 621 Berry Hill Road, South Boston died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at the age of 95.
She was born in Pittsylvania County on May 28, 1917 to the late James Thomas Hines and the late Ada McDowell Hines and was married to the late James Gadis Long.
Mrs. Long was of the Episcopalian faith and was a retired spinner at J.P. Stevens.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary L. Francis of South Boston, Alice N. Newby of South Boston and Shirley L. Morcom of Largo, Md.; one son, James T. Long, of Greensboro, N.C.; three grandchildren, Tammy N. Dunn and husband Ollie of Alton, Allen W. Newby of Alton and S. Christopher Long and wife Stephanie of Danville; one step grandchild, Clifton Newby Jr., and wife, Effie of Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Trey Dunn, Tyler Dunn, Suzanna Long, Alayna Newby and Spencer Long; three step great-grandchildren, Tommy Taylor, Allison Taylor and Stacia Cook; and three step great-great grandchildren, McKenzie Hauser, Mason Cook and Kamden Cook.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah L. Ashworth; one infant son, four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday and at other times at the home of Mary Francis, 2041 Philpott Rd., Lot 28, South Boston, VA 24592.
