Ophelia Wilson Brogden of 1404 Moore Street, South Boston died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at The Woodview.
Mrs. Brogden was 84-years-old at the time of her death.
Ophelia Wilson Brogden was born Sept. 29, 1928 in Halifax County and was the daughter of the late Silas J. Wilson and Myrtle Nelson Wilson.
She was married to the late Harold Bradcher Brogden.
She was a homemaker and a member of Florence Avenue Baptist Church and the DAV Auxiliary.
Mrs. Brogden was a beloved “Good Mama” by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ophelia Wilson Brogden is survived by one son, Ricky A. Brogden and wife Sharon of South Boston; four sisters, Willie Long of Roxboro, N.C., Allena Elliott of Virgilina, Ednes Wilson of Blackstone and Janey Reaves of South Boston; one granddaughter, Karen Lee Butler; three grandsons, Master Sgt. Ray Allen Butler, Nichols Brian Butler and Shane Allen Brodgen; two granddaughters, Elisabeth Cayce Brogden and Sarah Bliss Brogden; great- grandchildren Brendan Reid and Chase Allen Butler; one son-in-law, Raymond Butler and Terry; and a devoted caregiver, Daisy Franklin.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Brogden Butler, and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for Ophelia Wilson Brogden will be held Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Florence Avenue Baptist Church, with the Revs. John Eure and Allen Boggs officiating.
Interment will be in Virgilina Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour before the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at Florence Avenue Baptist Church in Virgilina and other times at her home on Moore Street in South Boston.
