Mr. William Otis Tune Sr. of 9159 Chatham Road, Vernon Hill died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home in Danville. He was born in Vernon Hill on April 24, 1922 and was 90 years old.
He was the son of the late William Kester Tune and Lou Jenny Blanks Tune and was married to Muriel Palmer Tune.
Mr. Tune was a member of Halifax Baptist Church where he served as clerk, treasurer and deacon. He was a World War II Army Veteran from 1942-45 having served in the European Theater. He was a retired tobacconist from the American Tobacco Company for 43 years. He also was a member of the Halifax Masonic Lodge # AF&AM.
Survivors include his wife, Muriel Palmer Tune, of Vernon Hill; one daughter, Linda Tune, of Greensboro, N.C.;
three sons, William Otis (Bill) Tune Jr. and wife Terry of Sutherlin, Thomas (Tom) Tune and wife Leigh of Hillsborough, N.C.,
Michael Tune of Vernon Hill and fiancé Sandra Hodges of Martinsville;
four grandchildren; one step granddaughter; two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Halifax Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike McDowell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at his home.
