Mrs. Virginia Norman Patterson of South Boston died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at the Somerset. She was born in South Boston on Jan. 14, 1914 and was 98 years old. She was the daughter of the late Wariner Winfield Norman and Lena Rye Norman and was married to the late Von Hindenburg Patterson Sr. She partnered with her husband with several business enterprises and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors of Mrs. Patterson include one daughter, Giny Patterson Cole, and husband Harper of Cary, N.C.; one son, Von H. Patterson Jr., of Charlotte, N.C.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Elizabeth Thaxton, of South Boston; and one sister-in-law, Peggy Norman, of South Boston.
One daughter, Judith Sorrell; her sisters, Mary Lena Satterfield, Sarah Gibson, Nancy Henderson and Gladys Cavanaugh; and brothers, W.W. Norman Jr., A.G. Norman, Bruce Norman and Walter Norman, also preceded Mrs. Patterson in death.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Susan Grimm conducting the service.
The family will receive friends at Trinity Episcopal Church on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
