Mrs. Rachel Easley Ballou of 1040 L. P. Bailey Memorial Highway, Halifax died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at The Woodview Nursing Home at the age of 88.
Mrs. Ballou was born in Halifax County on Oct. 19, 1924 to the late Mr. Robert Easley and Mrs. Aldora Martin Easley. She was married to the late Mr. Branford H. Ballou and was a member of Banister Hill Baptist Church. She was a retired teacher for Halifax County Public Schools.
Mrs. Ballou leaves to cherish loving memories three sons, Mr. Robert H. “Bob” Ballou and Mr. Brad Ballou, both of Halifax, and Mr. Felix Ballou of Richmond; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a devoted friend, Mrs. Thelma S. Edmonds; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ballou was preceded in death by three sisters, Bessie E. Greene, Florence Easley and Mary Rachel Easley; seven brothers, Arthur Easley, Felix James Easley, Charles Easley, Woodrow Easley, Robert Easley, Richard Easley and Clarence Easley; and one great-grandchild, Keweli Ballou.
Funeral services for Mrs. Rachel Easley Ballou will be held Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at noon with services at Banister Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. William Carr officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Public viewing for Mrs. Ballou will be Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at The Crawford House chapel in Halifax.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 1040 L. P. Bailey Memorial Hwy. in Halifax.
