Mr. John Jasper Dunn of Ridge Road, Roxboro, N.C., died on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Person Memorial Hospital in Roxboro, N.C., at the age of 79.
Mr. Dunn was born in Halifax County on Dec. 25, 1933 to the late Mr. Flemming Dunn Sr. and Mrs. Anna Lee Dunn. He was married to the late Mrs. Elnora Dunn and was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Dunn is survived by one stepson, Mr. John Woody, of South Boston; four sisters, Ms. Shirley Dunn of Orange, N.J., Mrs. Mary Malone of Mt. Clair, N.J., Ms. Anna Dunn of East Orange, N.J. and Mrs. Sea Dorothy Hans of Philadelphia, Pa.; three brothers, Mr. Flemming Dunn Jr. of Jersey City, N.J., Mr. Rufus Dunn of Emporia, Mr. James Dunn and wife, Catherine of Rosella, N.J.; two step-granddaughters, Ms. Cheryl Woody and Mrs. Dominek Brandon and husband Daniel; two step-grandsons, Joshua and Jeremiah Brandon; two nieces and a nephew who he raised; Mrs. Linda Jennings, Ms. Vonnie Jones, both of South Boston and Retired Master Charlie Walton of Summerville, S.C.; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. John Jasper Dunn will be Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Alton, with the Rev. Herbert Pettiford officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Louis and Linda Jennings, 77 Poplar Creek St. South Boston.
