Mr. John Edward Hamlett, affectionately known as “Bro Rabbit,” of Alton Post Office Road, Alton, died at his residence on Saturday, March 16, at the age of 73.
Mr. Hamlett was born in Halifax County on March 22, 1939 to the late Mr. John Cliff Hamlett and Mrs. Sallie Jane Crowder Hamlett. He was married to Mrs. Maxine Bailey Hamlett and was a member of Owens Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Hamlett is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maxine B. Hamlett, of Alton; two daughters, Mrs. Sharron Anderson of Jacksonville, Fla. and Mrs. Sheryl Faulkner and husband Michael of South Boston; two sons, Mr. Cyrus Hamlett and wife Frederica of Durham, N.C. and Mr. John C. Hamlett of Alton; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Mr. Lawrence Hamlett, and wife Sandra of Sedalia, N.C.; Mrs. Vivian Drumwright whom was raised as his sister; eight sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including the devoted Mr. Robert Clay.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hamlett was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Veleria Taylor and Ms. Dorothrea Hamlett; and one brother, Mr. Bernard Hamlett.
Funeral services for Mr. John Edward Hamlett will be Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at Owens Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. John M. Leigh officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 1210 Alton Post Office Road, Alton.
