Mr. of Scottsburg died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Woodview Nursing Home. He was born July 31, 1927 in Halifax County and was 85 years of age. He was the son of the late John Massey Francis Sr. and the late Minnie Owen Francis and was married to the late Belle Ford Francis.
Mr. Francis was a member of Scottsburg United Methodist Church and a U.S. Army veteran. He was also a former member of Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department and past caretaker of the Oakland Cemetery. Mr. Francis retired from ABB where he was a welder and painter.
Survivors of Mr. Francis include one daughter, Gail F. Crews of Virgilina; one son, Jimmy Owen Francis and wife Linda of Scottsburg; two grandchildren, Dana Spangler Roberts and husband Christopher of Richmond and Shannon Hunt and husband Matt of Alton; and one sister, Lucille Thompson of Omega.
One grandson, Ron Wilmouth; two brothers, John M. Francis Jr. and Tony Francis; and two sisters, Agnes Grantham and Madeline Moorefield, also preceded Mr. Francis in death.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, May 26, 2013, at 2 p.m. in Oakland Cemetery, Scottsburg, with Pastor Raymond Moorefield officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Powell Funeral Home from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., and other times at the home of Gail Crews, 1067 Reaves Loop, Virgilina.
