Mrs. Lillian Gertrude Irvin of Myrtle Street, South Boston died on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at her residence at the age of 70.
Mrs. Irvin was born June 19, 1943 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Mr. Benjamin Irvin Sr. and Mrs. LaVerta Bryant Irvin. She was married to Mr. Elisha Irvin and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Alton.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. Elisha Irvin; one daughter, Ms. Deborah Irvin, of South Boston; three sons, Mr. John Irvin of East Orange, N.J., Mr. Aaron Lloyd and wife Sarah of Indianapolis, Ind. and Mr. Wayne Irvin of Rome, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Mr. Joseph Irvin and wife Rose, Mr. Leroy Irvin and the Rev. Dr. James Irvin and wife Rose Mary, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Ms. Sydell Irvin; three sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Kelly, Ms. LaVerta Irvin and Mrs. Barbara L. Officer.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian Gertrude Irvin will be Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at 2 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, Alton with the Rev. Dr. James Irvin and the Rev. Dwight Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Public viewing for family and friends will be Friday, Aug. 16, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 118 Myrtle Street, South Boston.
