The Halifax County High School varsity volleyball team opened Western Valley District play last night at Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke with a target of reaching the Northwest Region Tournament. Halifax County High School faced Franklin County High School in the first of the night’s two semifinal games. Regular-season district champion Patrick Henry High School faced fourth-seeded GW in the nightcap.
If the Comets defeated second-seeded Franklin County High School last night they will advance to the tournament championship match on Thursday and be guaranteed one of the district’s three berths in the Northwest Region Tournament.
In that scenario, the Comets will host a Northwest Region Tournament match on Saturday, facing the third-seeded team from the Commonwealth District in the first round of the Northwest Region Tournament.
However, if both Halifax County and GW lost last night, the Comets will host GW Thursday night in a match to determine the district’s third entry into the Northwest Region Tournament.
In that scenario, if the Comets win Thursday they will go on the road Saturday to face the second-seeded team from the Commonwealth District in the first round of the Northwest Region Tournament.
