The Halifax County High School swim team came away from its Senior Night meet with an overall team win Wednesday over Prince Edward High School.
Lexi Reaves and Becca Snead each posted two individual wins, while Jessica Conner, Kelsey White, Collin Kashmer and Grey Henderson each won an individual event for Halifax County.
The Comets’ girl’s “A” 200-meter medley relay team – Anna Carole Cole, Jessica Conner, Becca Snead, Kelsey White - and the boy’s “A” 200-meter free relay team – Keith Crews, Grey Henderson, Delontae Miller, Collin Kashmer - also took home wins at the meet, as did the girl’s “A” 200-meter free relay team – Cole, Reaves, Snead and White.
The Comets’ girl’s swim team posted 61 points and the boy’s swim team posted 41 points, while Prince Edwards’ girl’s team collected 21 points and its boy’s team collected 50 points.
That gave the Comets the overall meet win in a successful outing, according to Comets’ swim coach Shawn Torian, who thought the Comets’ boys were close to making it a sweep.
“We had enough points from the boy’s performance to take the meet as a whole,” said Torian.
“We were about one male swimmer away from collecting enough points to defeat the Prince Edward’s male team. That would have been an outstanding accomplishment because they have an above average male squad.”
The Western Valley District meet is Wednesday in Salem, with the top eight individuals and top-four relay teams qualifying for regional competition.
“I would like to thank every parent or any individual that helped with home swim meets,” added Torian. “Our parent involvement was tremendous this year, and it made our home swim meets seem easy and organized.”
