Lewis Metal Works takes victory om Jeff Nelson Memorial

A team of golfers representing J.E. Burton Construction took home the title at last year’s Jeff Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament presented by the South Boston Jaycees.
That was one of the few times in the past several years Lewis Metal Works did not pose for the championship picture, but Friday they returned to the top of the leader board, firing a 54 to win “A” Flight and overall honors at the annual tourney, played in memory of Jaycee Jeff Nelson.
Lewis Metal Works has won the tournament four of the past seven years, according to Randy Cage, who teamed with James Lewis, Drew Lewis and Jay Burnett to win the title this year.
“I play less golf than these three golfers, but I’m very blessed over last seven years to win it four times,” said Cage.
“It’s one of those deals where it’s played in memory of one of my Jaycees buddies that passed away.
“Jeff was a great guy, we’re very blessed to win the tournament, and it means a lot to me.”
Teams representing Dollar General and Double Bubbles were second and third in “A” Flight, while Gupton-Wyatt won “B” Flight, followed by Franklin’s Transport and South Boston Tees.
A team representing Kwang W. Kim DDS was “C” Flight winner, followed by D-Scan and Ray’s Golf #2, and team representing Pino’s was “D” Flight winner, followed by Farm Credit and Team Honey Badger.
In case of a tie, the top three finishers in each flight were determined by a match of cards.
