It is time again for member-guests and invitationals to start popping up and this weekend at Danville Golf Club, the area’s largest and most prestigious tournament, the Townes Lea is being held.
To make it more attractive to the gallery and the fans of golf, they have lined up a group of pros to play against the amateurs that is second to none.
Bobby Wadkins, Walter Hall, Bobby Mitchell, Mike Goodes and the legendary Vinny Giles will play a exhibition match at 12:45 pm.
The match is open to the public at no charge, and even though they cannot compete in the tourney, it will be interesting to compare their scores against the likes of a Keith Decker who is the defending champion.
There are 92 golfers competing for the crystal bowl that is revered in area golf circles.
If you get a chance, it is a short ride up 58 West, and I think you will enjoy what you see.
Peter McCready put on a show last weekend at the Folly. Peter made 7 birdies and shot his lowest round of his career, a 69. Very good golf old friend considering your age and height.
Not to be outdone, local golf hero, Jimmy Clay shot an 11-under 61 on Sunday, one off of the record 60 he posted several years ago.
The thing that blows your mind, he was only 15 yards off of number 17 and made his only bogey of the round.
Congratulations to Lewis Metal Works for winning the Jeff Nelson Memorial last Friday at Greens Folly. This tournament continues to be one of the best in the area and the money the Jaycees have received have gone to help the whole area.
James, Drew, Jay and Bubbles have had great success in this tourney and have been a great supporter of the Jaycees as well as the other teams that fill it up every year.
Do not forget the American Legion Golf Tournament today at the Folly. All monies made go toward the Legion baseball program to help the young men get ready for life and competition.
Next week is member-guest at Halifax Country Club and it looks like another full field. More on this next week.
Have a great week, play well and play smart. If you are playing in the Kinderton Member-Guest play well and bring some prizes back to the county.
Yes Doctor Owen, I am mentioning the high score I shot Wednesday at Clarksville. _____????106.
Have a great one and thanks for reading.
