A fourth-place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles last weekend at the Northwest Regional outdoor track meet has qualified Halifax County’s Marcus Bowman for the AAA State Track and Field Meet.
Bowman ran a time of 15.30 seconds in the high hurdles at the regional meet, the best finish of any Halifax County High School athlete at the meet.
Mikayla Boyd was eighth in the triple jump at 35-01.75, and Amber Walton was eighth in the high jump at 5-00 for the Comets’ girl’s outdoor track team.
Anissia Coleman was 13th in the 300-meter hurdles in 51.19 seconds, and Trinity Williams was 18th in that same event in 53.13 seconds.
Tyrika Lee was 11th in the 200-meter dash in 26.60 seconds, and Kiana Woodall was 19th in the 400-meter dash in 1:06.88.
The girl’s 4x800-meter relay team, with Lashawn Johnson, Jessica Hinds, Keuna Mayo and Audrey McElroy was 11th in that event in 12:56.19, and the 4x100-meter relay team, with Boyd, Monasia Walton, Williams and Lee was 13th in that event in 51.52 seconds.
The girl’s 4x400-meter relay team, with Kiana Woodall, Amber Walton, Coleman and Monasia Walton was 12th in that event in 4:29.55.
Reginald Jones was 16th in the triple jump at 39-07 for the Comets’ boys at the regional meet, Juan Leon was 11th in the 400-meter dash in 52.59 seconds, and William Brooks was 17th in the 400 meters in 55.62 seconds.
Bowman was 21st in the 300 hurdles with a time of 1:03.88, and William Brooks was 22nd in the 200 meters in a time of 24.36 seconds.
Dominique Lassiter, Leon, Brooks and Jones teamed for a ninth-place finish in the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:31.21 for the Comets’ boys.
The AAA State Track and Field Meet will be held Friday and Saturday at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond.
