Marcus Bowman of the Halifax County High School outdoor track team completed a stellar high school track career last weekend as he competed at the Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet held at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond.
Bowman, who plans to attend George Mason University, recorded a time of 16.12 seconds in the preliminary round of the 110-meter hurdles at the state championship meet, good for 25th-place.
Trey Holloway of Grassfield High School won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.85 seconds.
Bowman had qualified for the state meet with a fourth-place finish at the Northwest Regional outdoor track meet with a time of 15.30 seconds.
A competitor for both the Comets outdoor and indoor track teams while in high school, Bowman capped his high school indoor track career in February helping his team tie Patrick Henry for the Western Valley District Indoor Track Championship.
Bowman qualified for the Virginia Group AAA State Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet earlier this year with a fifth-place effort in the 55-meter hurdles at the Northwest Region meet.
