Halifax County High School’s athletes gave it a good effort, but failed to score in the Group AAA State Indoor Track & Field Championships held Friday and Saturday at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.
The best finish compiled by the Comets was an 11th-place finish in the boys 4x200-meter relay event, which had 25 teams competing.
Jamal Crews, Dominique Lassiter, Roland Brandon and Devan Richardson teamed up to turn in a time of 1 minute and 32.70 seconds, missing by one position a scoring opportunity for the Comets.
Richardson competed in two other events, finishing 11th in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.60 seconds, and finishing 22nd in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet and 76.25 inches.
Sophomore Tyrika Lee placed 14th in the girls 300-meter dash with a time of 42.14 seconds.
In addition, junior Shalar Charlton placed 17th in the boys shot put with a throw of 45-6.25. Brandon, a sophomore, finished 25th in the boys triple jump with a leap of 38-3.
The state meet was the final indoor track and field event of the season.
